Not much to do at MVYC during the winter except repair dock bumpers. Walking on the ice around the docks makes this much easier. The trade off is cold fingers. Can’t wait for “ice out” to hang out with our friends on A&B docks this spring.

Snowshoeing at Night
Night snowshoeing at Gunstock. Our guide Kale and his wife were great. The snowshoeing was relatively easy. Tiger chair ride up, hike to Mt. Rowe and then down access road to base camp. The Powder Keg Bar is still open for food and drinks. Great way to spend a Friday night with friends.
Gunstock Rock Loop
Sunny cold day cross-country skiing at Gunstock. Trails were well groomed and snow was fast. Great way to spend time with my best friend.
New Snow At Gunstock New Year’s weekend 2017
12 inches of powder Friday morning made fantastic ice free skiing Saturday. Parking lots were packed but lift lines were amazingly short. Even with the new snow not all trails were open, forcing beginner thru expert skiers onto the same trails. We stayed a few hours and split for home (gotta love season passes). Kids skied all day and came home all smiles and ready for a beer.
Hard Apple Cider?
Winter is here and there’s still apples on the trees. Snowshoes and warm clothes is all that’s needed to pick the frozen apples. Even cold and leafless, the orchard is beautiful.
